Backspin on a Golf Ball- Do it Like the Pros Do

Learn Hoe to Create Backspin on Your Golf Ball

Attempting to impart backspin on a golf ball is something all golfers want to do, however hardly any can.  It demands a clean hit with your ball, reasonable club head speed, plus a understanding of what you are attempting to do.  But when you are able to achieve the shot, it will do wonders with your

Things you need to regard when you are going to put backspin on a golf ball:

How Backspin is Created on a Golf Ball

1.    The golf ball.  It should have a soft casing, because the soft cover will let the grooves of your club to penetrate deeper into the ball.  This will give more time for the ball to stay with the club face (even while it is a millisecond), which can give your club face additional time to impart golf ball spin with the ball.

2.    The lie of the golf ball.  The ball must have a clean lie, as any impediment like grass or leaves, particularly when they are wet, will certainly significantly hamper the capability of spinning the ball.

3.    Your set-up.   Locate your golf ball in the center, or somewhat back from middle of your stance.  Put most of your weight, about two-thirds, on the front foot.  All this is going to naturally cause a steeper swing path towards the golf ball.  Open the stance slightly, and open the club face just a little, which will prevent the club face from digging into the ground.  Instead it will produce a bouncing effect from the ground and to the golf ball.

4.    The golf swing.  As you swing downward and through your golf ball, maintain an open club face as much as you can.  This will likely elevate the amount of time the grooves of the club stay on your ball, enabling it to grab it.  As the club face contacts the golf ball and then knifes under it, reverse spin, or backspin will be imparted on your golf ball.

5.    Other factors to consider.  It is less difficult to create backspin while working into a headwind and when the golf greens get soft, and obviously will work better when the golf green slopes toward you.  In addition, the higher loft on the club, such as that with pitching wedge loft, the more backspin you should be able to get.

Backspin Is Really About Creating Friction

The whole thought when trying to create a great deal of backspin on the golf ball is to establish the maximum contact, or put differently friction on the ball.  This friction will bring about your golf ball to spin.  Since the momentum of the club face goes forward and we want the ball to spin backward, making this all happen gets quite a bit more complex.  So visualize the action as lighting a match by striking it.  You would obviously want to retain the match head with the surface for as long as you can to generate the most friction.  That is what we will attempt to achieve when we create backspin on a golf ball.

A last little secret I will leave you with, and that is an older golf club having rusty grooves is found to provide additional backspin on the golf ball.  I’ve this ancient sand wedge I bought in 1970 at Ft. Benning, Georgia at the time I was stationed there.  Obviously it’s showing its age, however it will really create backspin on the ball.  Is it illegal?  Well, I have never inquired, and I am not going to.
